| i have just had a phone call from a woman , she was talking to someone at my work about her dog and they gave her my number, she says her 5 month pup is mouthing her and biting her ankles what could she do to stop it, we went through she will be teething telling her no all the normal stuff then she tells me she had spoke to a behaviourist about it and they said to put her in a crate for 1 hr each time she mouthed i have never heard of this before and remembering back to mine when they were young they would never see the light of day, makes you wonder just what people do when their dogs are teething _________________ HAPPINESS IS A OBEDIENT DOG , I MISS MY SWEETIE MORE EACH DAY |

| Marley was horrendous for mouthing at 5 months old and he bloody hurt!! My arms were covered in bruises!! i was always told not to use the crate as a punishment but whenever marley started i would shove a toy or chew in his mouth or distract him with a treatball. if that failed i never told him off but i would put him in his crate for 10 mins time out with a kong. It seemed to work eventually Ive been very lucky with kala she very rarely did it she was always happy to chew on a hide bone like she's doing at the moment _________________ |

| We always made sure Caius had tonnes of toys, blankets etc and his favourite piece of chew was an old wooden block off a pine table Rawhide chews dental stix Kongs etc. Where ever he tried chewing what we didn't want him too ie the stairs/bannister we told him a firm NO and sprayed with anti chew. He seemed to sense he wasn't supposed to chew us or the kids Clever lad We never crated him. He slept in his den on a night He was far less bother and made far less mess than Brogan did when he was a pup - We were filling holes in the wall and re-papering the kitchen when Brogan was a babe teething |

| Beyond belief to be told to crate a pup for an hour every time My girls got a suitable toy shoved in their gob when they were mouthing |

| never had that problem raw bones work well anyway you should not let a dog bite at your hands or arms he will think its a game and may nip someome in the street thinking its a game not the dogs fault but the owners
A college at work just bought a cocker pup and was doing this he said it was ok as it was only puppy teeth i told him to stop but he ignored the advice the dog now has a full set of teeth and still biting everyone in the house.
the reason they bought the dog was his teenage daughter was scared of dogs and getting a puppy would have help her now she is the one the dog bites most guess he is still picking up on her fear
you can only give advice sue you cant make them use it |

| Shocking what advice is being given out there. As kenny says, you can only give advice but if they listen or not is another matter |
