PostSubject: Marleys trip to the vets   Mon Jul 04, 2011 6:02 pm

As you know I mentioned to Neil our vet while kala was having her boosters that marley was acting a bit strange. on a walk he will suddenly sit down for no reason and also be fine one minute and then all of a sudden quickly turn round to his rear end. he's also had a strange smell about him too so all things told Neil suspected a blocked anal gland Well we took him tonight and OMG poor lad ( and poor Neil!!) marley not only had a blocked anal gland but its also infected. the smell was awful!!! He is now on antibiotics again and neil has asked us to change his food as marley needs to have more solid poos to help clear the anal glands. He has suggested we put him on Hills. If the antibiotics dont work then he will have to have a general anaesthetic and the gland cleaned out and antibiotic injected into it. i want to try and avoid that. Please keep your fingers crossed for him. We have to take him back in 2 weeks time

The poor Love Sending hugs for the gawjuss man. I take it you didn't take a nose peg hun? Anal glands are bad enough but infection too Hope the new food helps Marley and that the antibiotics clear everything up without any further action. All and paws at this end hun

thanks Hun If it does help then yes he will have to stay on it. Its twice as much as Skinners but id rather pay that if it works than to have to have him go every month to have what hes had done tonight he squealed bless him or to have him put under a GA,

I have a vet plan with Neil and I get 10% off which is really competitive with online when delivery charges are added. I will look at pets at home too Sue. Hills is a lot more expensive than the skinners but if it helps him I dont care!! I will keep kala on skinners as she is ok with it and ive just taken delivery of 2 bags but she knows Marley is having something different to her and shes wanting it!!

Poor Marley, hope the change of diet helps.
Like Sue said,i would give him a raw bone occasionally.
Mine get bones and all of them are on skinners and i've never had a problem
with anal glands.I would try adding the bones to see if it helps Jude before i
make the food change.Just my opinion.

Awww poor Marley Exactly the same thing happened to Keira a few years ago She had badly infected anal glands that the vet had to empty
He was like your vet Jude and said about the change in diet etc and that sometimes they keep getting infected I checked it out on the internet and scared myself reading about all the worse case scenarios like glands having to be cut out

In the end she was fine once they had been emptied and has been fine ever since without having to change her food

She now has raw chicken wings in her diet

When i worked at the vets they were always recommending the Hills food Think they are on commission to sell it I bought it once for my cat but she wouldnt eat it

Im sure he will be back to normal soon
