    PostSubject: Help with tranfer from cage to bed with a puppy ?   Mon Jul 04, 2011 3:59 pm

    Ollie is being a pain at the minute with sleeping;
    he will not sleep or switch off without being in his dog cage.

    This is fine but we are going on holiday soon and the cage is too big to take with us.

    Already I have tried moving his bedding out of his cage into his other bed, but he still will not settle on it.

    He likes to play with his bed and pull it around the room but will not sleep on it?

    The only time he has slept on his been is when he is worn out after a long walk.

    Any suggestions

    the only thing i can think is that on holiday, he will be so exhausted, he will eventually sleep anywhere .... then this may carry on at home....

    i dont know really what to suggest hun, maybe someone will have a better idea

    not sure about this one, but the only thing i can suggest if you put ollie's bed right outside his crate and to encorage him to go lie in his bed by using a treat to get him to go in there and settle, and lots of praise.
    sorry i cant think of hand of anything else

    why dont you just take a smaller cage?
    some dog owners think keeping dogs in cages is cruel but they actually feel more secure
    when outside they sleep in kennels but when they are in they sleep in cages and Axle who is the biggest always goes to the smallest cage and the 2 girls share a 48inch cage.
    the van is also fitted with cages when we stay over or go camping they sleep in cages in van

    how big is his bed , would it fit inside his crate so he would get use to the idea of sleeping in it before you go on your jollies

    that was naughty but very funny ... .... serves them right for sitting next to the bit where dogs like to go down into the water ... and for having food on the bench ... how dare they
    i think you should put him on his lead by the water and everytime he goes to run in .... yank him back and shout NO!!!!! ... he'll soon get the message hun ... he will learn the reward him with a go in the shallow bit where they like to play
