PostSubject: pointers   Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:01 pm

i dont know a lot about this breed ...

i was talking to a neighbour this morning when i was off on my walk with the dogs, i asked if she still had her dog as i had never seen her out with it

she said she had still got it, it was outside in its run whilst she cleaned up... i told her we would be putting the house up for sale sometime in the future so we could have more space and land for the dogs.... she said she was lucky she had a big garden, but the dog had churned the grass up running about.... i jokingly said to her she should go out walking with it to tire it out .. then she said that her dog didnt like walking ... i said ''oh right, what do you mean lol'' she said.... its a pointer and likes to run, so she prefers to put it in the car and let if off at elvaston castle so it could run around i said to her... all dogs like walking as well as running though... but she said the dog pulled too much and it does her head in ..

to me what she means is...she cant be arsed to walk it and its never been lead trained so its easier to just let it off and annoy other people who are trying to 'walk' their dogs

and tbh ive never heard of a pointer that likes to just run .... im prob wrong tho

are you another idle owner mister a good old fashioned walk is whats needed, none of this sticking yer dogs in a van and driving to the nearest park/field to let them off and do as they please ... a good old walk is needed and it will keep you fit at your age too

My mum and dad had an english pointer when i was growing up. He was a complete nutter and very brain dead lol Luckily we had a big garden, he definatly liked running, i remember once my cousin left the front door open and he escaped, me and my sister got in the car to find him, we caught up to him along a long straight road and we was doing about 40mph next to him as he was running, luckily we got in front of him and opened all the doors and he jumped straight in lol stupid dog. He did used to pull my mum on the lead alot when she walked him and no matter how far or how often she walked him he never seemed to get worn out lol but it didnt stop her walking him and taking him to different walks
She took him along to training lessons.....he spent the whole time hiding under the chairs and caused total chaos...the trainer asked her not to come back i would say he was more of a hypo nutter than Viva lol although he did slowly mature when he reached 5-6 years old.
But he was a fantastic dog and writing this has made me miss him so much

I don't know much about pointers
well!! I dont know anything about them really

but that woman you spoke about Shelley sounds like she's making excuses not to train her dog proper, after all he's not just a pointer NO!
he's also a dog... and dogs need to be socialised and trained
