Where is it situated on the dog. Along the back or in the nose.
They need to be surgically removed. You cannot burst them manually otherwise that will cause gross inflammation and irratation to the skin.
They are similiar to Epidermoid but deeper rooted. This is why they need surgery to be removed as they can go as deep as the meninges, when this happens they need radiographically dealt with.
If in the nasal cavity then again it is surgery and need to be removed completely.
If dealt with promptly then long term prog is good.
Its normally Rhodies or Boxers that suffer from these types of skin lesions with Kerries being the worst.
The condition is thought to be inherited via a simple recessive gene

Trance ....I did a bit of searching on the subject for you and found this page which I think will be very interesting to you, especially as it concerns a dog with a cyst in the exact position your dog has one.

i read that too carolyne! kala had a cyst in the exact same place but neil our vet could squeeze it and get gunk out and we had to do it once a week and bathe it, its gone now thank god. If it hadnt burst Neil would have operated.

Everywhere I have read says not to squeeze it. Mind you I suppose it depends on what kind of cyst - as there are many - and also how deep it had hold.

Beagles are prone to interdigital cysts......they get them when run down a bit. I add cod liver oil to their diet and it goes away within a day or two on its own. But that is a different kind to what is being discussed here.

Cysts are horrible and a pain in the butt!

dont think kalas was a dermoid one but we took her to the vets as soon as we felt it. it was the size of a pea and the first thing neil did was to sqeeze it to see if anything would come out he was pleased it did as he would have had her in straight away to operate,
