| A FAMILY said they "risked their own lives" to save their dog after it was attacked by another dog in a Derby park. Sarah and Steve Branning claim they jumped on the dog as it mauled their own pet in front of Sarah's two children, in Allestree Park. Steve said he received bite wounds while two-year-old George, a four-stone goldendoodle – which is a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle – needed veterinary treatment after he was savaged. Sarah, of Allestree, claimed the owner of the attacking dog, which they said looked like a pit bull terrier, gave them a false address. She said she is worried that the dog could strike again and is urging people who use the park to beware. She said: "My children witnessed the attack and are now terrified of walking George. "This was not a scuffle that got out of hand. The scene resembled a wildlife film where a lion was catching its prey and mauling it. "My husband and I risked our lives getting involved and I believe my dog would be dead if we hadn't. "We haven't slept properly since, because we worry we'll come across the same dog again and that this time it will finish George off." The attack allegedly took place next to the lake, at around 4.30pm, on Sunday.
