| weve been to the vets today, and the new isnt good the vet is sure fred has the early signs of arthritis.. .. he had a very thorough examination this morning, and the vet confirmed what i already had a sneaky suspicion of, she could even see what leg he was having problems with before i mentioned it, and when she touched it and manipulated it, fred growled very loudly lol .. i had been to the vets a few weeks ago when fred had his six monthly check up and i mentioned then that his leg clicks loudly and he struggles with it when he gets up, but the vet said he was fine and the clicking was normal(i think i mentioned it on the forum previously too) i had also previously noticed fred scraping his leg on the odd occasion, but yet again the vet said it was fine the vet we had today was brilliant, she was very good she has put fred on metacam, he is to have no walks for a week or so, then we are to go back, he will have x-rays and we will go from there.. i checked with the vet insurance we have to see if we are covered for the x-rays an possible medication he will be on, and we arent... its our fault we havent read the small print properly ... but its not a problem, he will get whatever treatment he needs, and if it got too much, then i'd have to go get a job has anybody got any advice, ive been trawling the internet and its all very overwhelming _________________ ~The dog is a gentleman! | POOR FRED, he is only a baby to be getting arthritis, my susie [ bless her ] got polyarthritis in every joint due to a allergy to a antibiotic , when it happened the vet wanting to put her to sleep she was that bad, but i said i would try alternate medication and put her on dorwest products http://www.dorwest.com/Top/Joints arnica and rhutox , after a few weeks she went swimming and i managed to keep her going with a good life for 2 extra years, now i have my girls on food with added glucosamine and cronadine but would go back to dorwest if they got any signs of arthritis _________________ HAPPINESS IS A OBEDIENT DOG , I MISS MY SWEETIE MORE EACH DAY |

don't blame yourself , you have let fred enjoy been a puppy and have fun. you can give cod liver oil cos that helps lubricate joints , we always think of the worst with our dogs at the end of the day there are alot more worse things than a little arthritis , _________________ HAPPINESS IS A OBEDIENT DOG , I MISS MY SWEETIE MORE EACH DAY

First of all Shell I am sending you massive hugs I know your brain will be working overtime thinking about this, should you have done something different, how will it affect Fred, what happens if this, what happens if that I agree with the girls, don't blame yourself that will get you no where. I would go with Sue's advice being very experienced you won't go far wrong When the Xrays are done you will know exactly what is what, how long will that take once they are done do they read them or send them off Hugs for you and Fred

they only send them off for hipscoring , i think [ not 100% ] when there is arthritis in a joint it shows up like a greying round it were the surrounding muscle swells up to protect the damaged joint , if that makes sense _________________ HAPPINESS IS A OBEDIENT DOG , I MISS MY SWEETIE MORE EACH DAY

if he needs to be on metacam a long while , you can get a prescription from your vet and buy it cheaper on line , everything helps , http://www.viovet.co.uk/Prescription_Drugs-Prescription_Drugs_M_-_Q-Metacam_Oral_Suspension/c1_34_5/index.html _________________ HAPPINESS IS A OBEDIENT DOG , I MISS MY SWEETIE MORE EACH DAY
