PostSubject: Advice please...fussy eater   Tue Jun 01, 2010 6:49 pm

Kala used to love her food but over the past few weeks she is hardly eating anything. I have been adding things to her Arden Grange but the cunning little so and so is picking it out and spitting her biscuit out! she was even licking the tuna fish off the biscuit this morning and spitting it back in her bowl!!
She wont start to eat until Marley does and she stops eating when Marley is finished, she is so bloody nosey its unbelievable!
I think she is looking thin especially as she is shedding her coat too.
    Any suggestions?

I think it's the warm weather Judes
my 3 are like this at the moment too.
I don't worry about Shady and Tilly not eating coz they are well built
but Bailey needs to eat all he can, he's a right skinny GET.
Shades and Bails will wait for Tilly to start eating before they will. if she walks away from her food they all will. drives me crazy I just pick it up straight away
and re freeze it. they can go hungry the next day they will eat it.
I wouldn't worry too much hun
but if you are worried just ring the vet see what he thinks.

try soaking her food then mix the fish in , give it a really good mix in, she gets dental sticks so it won't hurt her teeth for awhile

i was going to suggest chicken wings. however, then you could be stuck in a situation where kara wont eat the dried food ever again.
i hope she gets her appetite back soon Jude

That's the trouble I get if I try to offer something yummy to get them to eat, it ends up that's all they will eat I do the same as Shelley now, just pick it up, if they are hungry enough they will soon eat, I have spent far to many days worrying about them, for them to end up taking the piss outta me

    NO TREATS WHAT SO EVER

if they are not eating remove food after 15mins if dry food give same again next feed
Dont be soft and give in, giving things they like such as fish chicken etc when they are not eating will only make them worse ,as u said licking fish of and not eating biscuits.
Doing without food for a couple of days will not harm them.
Vary feeding times as they get used to being fed at same times

thanks everyone my two get very few treats, they have always had tuna in sunflower oil or makerel in with their food for their coats which are lovely and shiny and in excellent condition. kala has had something to eat tonight but only because she was hell bent on nosing to see what Marley was up to I put both their bowls in the one food station and she ate everything because she didnt want him to get it!!
I have been picking their bowls up after 20 mins its just she went 3 days with virtually nothing .......bloody dogs!!!
