usually have to keep them apart about a week but i would keep them apart from first day of season until season completley over, crate 1 or the other , keep 1 upstairs 1 down, send male off to a friend or relative , it can be hard if you don't have room but its only for about 3 weeks, good luck

we dont crate the dogs tho we tried crate training blaze as a pup but he got himself so worked up he made himself ill - n mum wud never send him 2 a relative cuz we had family round once and i told them if any1 comes 2 the door 2 lock blaze in my mums room or sumwhere but bings is ok cuz he will just wander around the front garden - or the drive out back then come back in - so sum1 came round blaze was in the back garden my uncle opened the gate and apparently sed 'its ok he wont go anywhere' next thing he knew blaze had shot out and ran off - if he hadnt ov stopped 2 sniff a rottie we wudnt ov got him bk

There isn't actually a lot of blood.. the girls are usually very clean, It's a much smaller op to get the boys nuts off unless of course he has a retained one
Xsara was spayed at 14 mths old.. she didn't have her first season til she was 11 mths old
There is no right or wrong answer i don't think.. have a chat with your vet

the advice from vets is all different on this as well.
as u see from above one vet will do before 1st season so you have to trust the vet your with.
Our vet will not do it until after 1st season(bitch over 1year)he will also not give pups under 8weeks any jabs(not required) They dont like operating on dogs less than a year old(unless emergency)as young dogs cant always handle the anestetic reqd.
the bitches cycle is around 3 weeks but u may miss when it starts if u do not notice any blood(depending on surface)or it may be a dry season.
the bitch only ovulates for around 48hrs her scent will change (the dog will let u know when )this is only time she will stand for mating.(DONT LEAVE ALONE AT ANY TIME DURING THIS)
he will howl and get a bit more excited at this time.
Axle has had to put up with it for the last 3 months as each of or bitches have went into season one after another.
Axle is not allowed any where the girls are peeing when in season (to prevent tasting)we always hose down
We never take bitches out on walks when in season as you dont want a pack of dogs outside ur home wating for a chance

hope that helps a bit nix

imo if i was to have another dog it would be a bitch and i would do the same as jude has done and get her done as early as i could....

when i had betty and she came into season, the first couple of weeks werent too bad, fred whined a little bit and i always managed to keep them in seperate rooms, until the last week and i had to go out, i locked fred in the living room behind the closed door and a stairgate, betty was behind that door and locked in her crate.... thank the lord i got back when i did.... fred had broke through the door, smashed the stairgate off and broke through her crate, the house was upside down, mess everywhere and fred was like a dog posessed chasing her through the living room, i managed to get him and throw him outside and get betty upstairs... we had her to the vets for a precautionary injection, fred was neutered the next month :2431:
