I was always under the impression its better to let them have their first season then spay a few months later just in case of a phantom. I think the reasoning is to let the hormones kick start their thing - growth and maturity, bone density. I know there is a lot of stuff which is hormone related so it makes sense to me.

a lot of vets like to spay before they have a season, personally i would let her have 1 then spay about 9 weeks after , i was thinking about having mindy done but she's started with a phantom so will wait,

usually have to keep them apart about a week but i would keep them apart from first day of season until season completley over, crate 1 or the other , keep 1 upstairs 1 down, send male off to a friend or relative , it can be hard if you don't have room but its only for about 3 weeks, good luck

Kala was spayed at 6 months, she sailed through it, has had no side effects as yet, doesnt seem as though it has stunted her growth as yet. she's nearly 11 months and is a healthy 32kgs. For us it was the right thing to do and we didnt go into it lightly, if we hadnt Marley she would have had 1 season.

Is it true it changes a males temperament when spayed, skye is been a absolute buggar at the moment, trying to boss tia about i seem to be telling him off all the time, and barking at family n friends when the come in the house hes terrible wish i could either ground him like a kid or give him the silent treatment like when you ignore ova half. i know hes 6 month an probably trying it on. (bed skye)

Marley was neutered at 11 months as he had a retained testicle I dont think he's any different to be honest!! he's still a bugger at times!!
