PostSubject: Dog poisoned with strychnine, police warning: Sheffield   Fri Mar 19, 2010 6:05 pm

Police would like to warn dog owners to be vigilant after a pet was
    poisoned.

The incident occurred on Friday February 19 at 5pm on fields surrounding
Fulwood Head Farm, Fulwood Head Road, Mayfield Valley, Sheffield.

The incident occurred when a Border Collie being walked by its owner ate
something thought to have been laced with strychnine.

    The dog later died.

The poison attacks the central nervous system and can be fatal to humans
    as well as animals.

The field will remain closed until a search can be carried out for any
    remaining poison.

A forensic examination of the dogs will also take place to help officers
    with their enquiries.

Walkers are asked to remain vigilant when walking their dogs and to seek
medical advice if they, or their pet, come into contact with anything
    suspicious.

    No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident should call 0144 2202020 and
    ask for PC Matthew Duffy.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
