    PostSubject: Libbie's Bunnies   Tue Feb 02, 2010 8:25 pm

my Grandaughter Libbie (8) has 5 rabbits she adores them

ever since she was 4 she has cleaned and looked after them everyday
she has lost a few over the years but she's taken it on the chin as she always had the other rabbits to help her take her mind off the ones that have died. she's brilliant with them.
now she has 5 rabbits and they are ALL very sick the vet told her and her mum last night in 2 days time she won't have any rabbits at all they have caught a bug from somewhere
maybe a cat/ wild rat or wild rabbit has left some kind of virus in their garden and the rabbits have picked it up. there is nothing anyone can do. it's really sad and i feel for Libbie i really do she won't have any back up bunnies to take her mind of it, the vet gave them antibiotics but doubts if they will help, so you all have to pray they work

    your right Bren
but i know how bad these things are for rabbits, once they stop eating and drinking their organs start to shut down very quickly, even Libbie knows the tell tale signs, she rang me before and she has them in a box in the back room, she is feeding them water with a syringe every hour her step dad is helping out too, Bless her. her Mum Lindsey is not allowed to help her she is 7 months pregnant and has been told not to touch them at all.

What an awful thing to happen to a dedicated little girl must kids want a pet and then are fed up of looking after it after a few days, and here is your grandchild, cleaning and feeding them herself everyday foe four years and has this happen to her, it's terrible news and really sad, I feel for her

So if she does lose her lovely pets, will she be able to have more or will this awful virus 'live' on the property for some time is there an incubation time or does it just pass from animal to animal?

Am devistated reading this Karen, sending love and hugs to Libbie and hoping that some pull through
