Top football manager´s hopes for a rescue centre
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp hopes to open an animal sanctuary near his home in Dorset.
Harry
Redknapp, the Tottenham mananger (not my favourite team but never mind)
has ambitions beyond football for 2010. He has said that he wants to
open an animal sanctuary in Dorset.
Harry, who has lived in
Poole for many years, made the revelation in his New Year column for
The Sun newspaper. Jamie and Louise Redknapp, Harry’s son and
daughter-in-law, have previously been involved with animal
conservation.
Nick Ridge, co-founder of the Dorset Wildlife
Rescue, said there was a desperate need for animal homes in the county.
He said: “Dorset is a big county and very rural with a lot of animals.
There aren’t many rescue homes around, so we do need more. If he is
able to fund it, it would be very welcome.”
Mr Ridge said the recession had caused a lot of shelters to close, leading to a shortage of homes.
Harry
told The Sun his wishes for 2010 were “to get fit, to open an animal
sanctuary in Dorset and to see the culture of hate on the terraces
somehow eradicated”. They are all noble ambitions and good luck to him.
However you could argue that more rescues give more
opportunities for the feckless owners to abandon their pets - but if he
can save lives it´s a good thing. I just wish that whilst he´s trying
to change the culture of hate on the terraces he might also change the
culture where pets are so easily dumped.
