Oscar, a seven-year-old mongrel, did a whistle-stop tour of 29 countries, taking in all the famous sights including the Pyramids of Egypt and New York's Statue of Liberty.

He even left his mark on the Great Wall of China.

The £250,000 seven-month World Woof Tour, which ended last week, mirrored the famous journey by Phileas Fogg in Around The World In 80 Days.

Owner Joanne Lefson, 38, from Johannesburg, got Oscar from a South African dogs' home. She sold her house to pay for the trip and highlight the plight of stray dogs.

She said: "It broke my heart to think how many other Oscars are out there."

Before the trip Oscar had to have anti-rabies jabs. He also had a microchip fitted and a pet passport issued.

But it was all worth it. He even had time for a holiday romance with stray cutie Zara.

And they call it puppy love.
