PostSubject: I fear the worse   Mon Sep 21, 2009 9:33 pm

I have been backwards and forwards to the vets with Scottie, my mums 8 year old rough collie.
About 5 months ago he started bringing bile up every morning, we took him the vets and, after blood tests, sensitivity test, an operation to look inside him and take biopsys, giving him vetrinary sensitivity food we are still no wiser.
today I took him to a referall hospital with a few of doing a body scan and x-rays on him today, keeping him in overnight and doing an endscope on him tomorrow.

the hospital rang me tonight and said they had surprisingly found he had a very enlarged liver and they had taken more blood samples. he will now not have the endoscope till they have the blood results.

the vet fears he has liver cancer... we cant be sure till we get the results so tomorrow we will bring him home, if it is cancer there is nothing they can do, if not he will go back for the endoscope.

My mum is 80, Scottie is her world , and I have not told her, I feel like crap. I am worried how my mum will deal with this!

has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Scottie throughout has always been well in himself.

my old dog was 15 and got liver cancer im afraid it wasnt a good outcome he was PTS that day we found out, he was very fit and healthy till the day he died that morning he was sooo ill. the vets said they dont know how he didnt show any symptoms.

sorry wat i had to say was negative hun

its awful i had to tell my dad his dog Xena a GSD who was 3yrs old and who saved his life had cancer, and there was no hope. only with the time she had left to spoil her and show her how much she ment to us. my dad became very depressed after we put her to rest, id never seen him cry in my life but that day in the vets we blubberd like babys lol.

all you can do is pray for the best and if its bad news be there for your mum and help her anyway you can. my pack helped a lot with my dad and the depression and saddness he felt after xena passed.

unfortunately Scottie has liver and pancreatic cancer, we can only give him palliative care. the vet said she is amazed at how well he is considering his illness.
I have told my mum and she is devasted, I have told her to enjoy him while she can and when the time comes and Scottie no longer has a proper quality of life we will take him to the vets and assist him in his journey to the ''bridge''

any helpful tips in coping are very welcome, thanks guys!

i cried a LOT lol sorry but true it helped i also made slides of xena and looked back on them when i felt down, they made me cry but also cherish what we had we rescued her wen she needed us and gave her the best two yrs of her life.

remembering the good and the bad times laughing about her talking about her helped too, but everyone is different my dad couldnt talk about her for a long time he still cat watch videos of her and its been just over a yr.

i think you just have to remember the time you had with them and cherish it as they never leave us do they you may lose him, but hes always with you in your heart
