i was wondering... is it bad for a dog to go straight to his water bowl and gulp down loads of water when he comes in from a walk....

freds just come in and gone straight to his bowl and drunk it dry ....

i know its bad for a dog to eat a meal just before and after it goes on a walk, i wondered if the same rule applied to water,if gulped and a lot is drunk??

usually when they have a run and then gulp water down is quite bad, but what i've been told is that the stroll home helps them to calm down and then its ok for them to drink as much as they need... if you know what i mean

mine usually have an hour too i also carry a bottle of water incase they get too hot but they dont have a lot just enough to cool them down a bit, and the walk home is about 15 mins so they are well calmed down before their big drink at home

i took a bottle with me today, he drank it all in minutes lol... some of it i did tip on his back though as it was quite hot, and we had a long way to walk home at that stage.... i did offer him some of my strawberry water later on, he had a taste and wanted no more lololol.... :2431:

hes been sleeping ever since we came home, hes snoring happily in the hall way :2445:

i dont like to take fred out too late... you get all the dickheads out with their dogs, and later on at about 9ish, theres loads of strays about... so i like to get fred walked before schools out :2431:

unless we go out in the car with him

Bryn is just the same, I take bottled water and give him a bit here and there, if I allowed him he would gulp his whole dish of water when we get back, so I just put a bit of fresh in for him, then put a bit more after a few mins then repeat  don't know if I am helping him or not though

i woudlnt like mine to come in from a walk and gulp loads of water as gulping it down can mean they are gulping a lot of air too which also leads to bloat i would give him a lil bit then like sange some more so lil and often.

mine dont do this so dont have this problem
