So far i have a couple of artificial plants in and an ornament but i'm thinking i should put live plants in too.The hood has 2 flourescent lights built in.Its at 30 degrees at the moment. The filter, pump and heater are all built in to one unit at back of tank.I had the water tested today and was told that the ph balance is perfect but the nitrate level is slightly high so gonna have it tested again in a couple of days and if its ok then i can add fish. _________________

nitrate level will drop when bacteria starts on filter . to start with u want something hardy (platy's or swordtails) but only a pair then dont add anymore for about 5 days. Jan u will get a plant collection on ebay cheaper than any shop and some will give u planting instructions

if u put a large plec in ensure any ornaments are well secured and he would prefer a hiding place .plants will also need to be sturdy (amazon sword types) He will be fine with smaller fish but would wait till at least wed,if buying algae pellets only put in one and not every day u will have more fun if u use cucumber . cut a small slice and put in tank (use small metal plant weight to hold in down)

Aww Jan this is so exciting, getting ready to start your tank, I have live plants now and they look so much more natural, moving with the water flow, can't wait for pics of yours set up
