PostSubject: Smokey Barbeque Puppy: Amazing Story of Puppy With Fork in Skull   Thu Jul 16, 2009 4:42 pm

Submitted by K9 Magazine News Editor on July 15, 2009 – 2:05 pm

A 12 week old Chihuahua, called Smokey, is fortunate to be alive
after getting a grilling fork lodged in it’s skull. The accident
happened at a family party when the handle snapped off whilst feeding
the dogs scraps from the barbecue.

The unlucky - or very lucky, depending on how you view it, pup ran
into the woods with the fork stuck in his skull and went missing for 2
days. The dog was rushed to the vets where the fork was removed in
    emergency surgery.

The pup is making a full recovery, although he has lost all eyesight in his right eye.Vet, Dr Keaton Smith said: “They came in in a total
panic…What the owner was describing was pretty unbelievable but
then I saw Smokey and almost passed out with shock.

“I quickly anaesthetised him and put my hand over his head and then just pulled the fork out.”
“I have never seen anything like it in 25 years of vetting and I can’t believe he has survived.”
The dog’s owners, Hughie and Billie Wagers from London,
Kentucky said: ”The handle of the fork broke off and it went
straight into Smokey’s head. He ran away and after that we
thought he must have gone off and died. But two days later he came
walking back up the driveway with the fork still stuck in his head and
we took him straight to the vets.”

”It scared me half to death looking at it hanging out but
he’s doing good now even though it went right into his brain. We
thought he was going to die but he’s one lucky dog.”

:2431: awww i'm so glad he's ok

    KEBAB ANYONE????? :eyebr:

i read about this in the paper... there was x-ray pictures too.. i cant see how it would get that far lodged in by just dropping it onto its head  .... i reckon someone mistook it for a sausage :2431:

seriously though... not so sure this was an accident :nhy:

i dont reckon so bev, for that fork to get part lodged into the dogs skull it has to be driven in with some force

    Exactly.

Lot of drink (& goodness knows what else) flowing at the BBQ? People do strange things under the influence.

    Poor little thing
