PostSubject: Mickey and Keiras Training   Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:30 pm

Well Mickey had his first training session on Wednesday at the hall i take Keira to

I wasnt looking forward to it as it is quite small and i thought he might kick off seeing so many other dogs coming and going (there is another group before ours) Took OH just incase

Anyway he was fine and even although i say it myself i thought he was one of the best there They must have thought so aswell because we didnt need any one to one from the trainers like a few of the others He did have a bit of a go when someone came in with a bulldog but was ok once settled We were opposite it aswell so i was really pleased he settled down Shame all the dogs had a go at the bulldog and he just sat there looking at them not bothered

There was a greyhound who started off with a muzzle on but by the end of the night that was off :2445: He did keep looking at the yorkie and licking his lips tho

Then last night we were over at Mascani again and he was really good Zep is really pleased with him and said he is doing really well He also said i seemed more relaxed aswell Mickey will be going for his bronze but there is a possibility he could get his silver aswell :2879: They are going to see how Mickey and another GSD get on in the next few weeks as they feel they are both capable of getting silver on the night Im not banking on it tho

My life revolves around the dogs atm Im taking Keira tonight She will be going for her bronze aswell :2879: All this training is making me feel more confident with the dogs especially Mickey Will keep you all updated on progress every week :san53:

Update on Mickeys training this week He has been terrible :2222:

Wednesday night he was a bit sparky and went off at a few dogs Same thing happened last night

He was a real pain last night He is normally really good at his down stays but he kept refusing to do the down position or stay down He was even playing up for Zep He is normally really good when Zep does some training with him We think he was just hot and bothered with the heat so was in a defiant mood I have found him to be like this Some days he is brilliant and others he is so defiant and stubborn :san29: He also lunged towards the smaller dogs last night aswell as a few in our group :san54:
As you can imagine im really looking forward to Keiras training tonight :nhy: She can be a stubborn little madam aswell

Oh to have well behaved trained dogs It must be so nice

It's only a setback hun who's words was it, every day is a training opportunity and if they didn't have the setbacks we would become to cocky it's just preparing us incase we need to deal with it in an emergency

:2222: Saying all that, Misty is the same with me just when I feel I am getting on great with her, everything goes wrong again.

Chin up Bren, you will be so proud of yourself when they are a little older and you can take to well trained dogs out anywhere

I do believe this heat does make them edgy, we all feel it so they must hun

Zep told me to sternly :redangry: correct him then turn him away from the other dog Dont let him keep eyeing the other dog :eqwr: I had to distract him from the other dog and try get him focussed on me again My problem is im not assertive enough with him so he tends to take no notice Funny this because im quite an assertive person and dont take any crap off anyone but i struggle with the dogs Zep says i need to build more confidence in myself when dealing with Mickey I tend to get mad  when he wont behave instead of staying calm and assertive

PostSubject: Re: Mickey and Keiras Training   Fri Jul 03, 2009 11:02 am

Trouble with Mickey is he was allowed to get away with whatever he wanted and not corrected when he was small enough to be properly dominated by a woman who may be less powerful His previous owners didnt correct they just shoved him in his cage so he hadnt learnt how to do what he was told He has turned into a cocky cheeky monster who is now big enough to throw his weight around if he wanted to and i think he realises this Now when i try to be assertive he takes the piss which in turn knocks my confidence He isnt always like this its just when he has got a mood on but it is something that i have to get sorted which is why im doing so much training with him His previous owners have a lot to answer for
I get mad because i dont like failing and dont have much patience with myself :wqq: :wqq: I hate not being able to do something

bless ya hun, you sond like me, you want it all perfect yesterday...and one small blip throws you right back, in your mind.
its my fault freds like he is, i was way too soft with him when he was little... and when i finally got round to properly disciplining him, he doesnt take kindly to it :2431: ... you'd think he'd learn by now though that i always eventually get my own way

hes now lying with his head on my feet, if cesar saw that he would move him :2445:
