a dog has died after it fell from the third floor of a car park in Swindon.

The RSPCA is investigating after a woman said she saw a
"tan-coloured dog" falling and heard the sound of it yelping as it hit
the pavement below.

She said she saw a teenage girl and boy standing with their arms
outstretched from where the dog fell from Wyvern Car Park at 1800 BST
on Tuesday.

The RSPCA are also looking into the possibility that the dog slipped its lead and then ran off.

RSPCA Insp Sharon Crisp said: "At best we could be
talking about a terrible accident in which a dog escaped his lead,
jumped over the edge and fell to his death.

"However what the witness saw suggests there were young people with
the dog at the time he fell and it's possible they either threw or
goaded him over the edge.

"Equally it is possible they were trying to save him so we are very keen to hear from them to find out exactly what happened."

The dog's owner said their pet, which was a Staffordshire bull
terrier cross, ran off while he was being exercised off the lead, near
the car park.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward.
