Dog Dumped in Forest is Captured

April 24, 2009 by Freelance Writers

    After
six days on the run, a Border Collie dog dumped at Stoney Cross Plain
was finally rescued by New Forest District Council and Hillcrest
    Kennels.
The seven month old female Collie was reported to NFDC on Wednesday
15 April. NFDC dog warden service teamed up with Samantha and Kieron
Stuchfield of Hillcrest Kennels to catch the traumatised dog, but it
proved to be more challenging than they thought.

All concerned gave up their free time during the weekend to try and
capture the extremely timid dog, which was finally caught at 5.30pm on
Monday 20 April after being cornered in a gorse bush by NFDC Dog Warden
Alison Parsons and Samantha Stuchfield from Hillcrest Kennels.

Councillor Maureen Holding, New Forest District Council’s
portfolio holder for employment, health and wellbeing said:
“Thanks to the dedication and commitment of the dog warden
service and Hillcrest Kennels, this dog, which had been subject to
irresponsible dog ownership, is now being cared for appropriately.
“The council is committed to animal welfare and this recent
challenge is just one instance of how our dog warden service and our
partners have gone that extra mile to jointly protect public safety and
animal welfare within the New Forest.
