OK you all know I have been thinking about getting another dog, either a goldie or gsd, I havent decided yet which but Im getting so much conflicting opinions as whether to get a bitch or a dog!

Some people are telling me the best to get with a dog would be a bitch others are saying the bitch will take over and that getting another dog would be better!

come on peeps help me here bearing in mind that Marley has been neutered in your honest opinion what should it be bitch or dog???!!!!

no difference as marley has been fixed and i assume the newcomer whether dog or bitch would also get fixed

I have 2 girls and a boy, none are "done" yet and they are all getting along fine. I do find that Mimi prefers females to males though, she seems more laid back around females.

As Kenny said, being as he doesnt have the hormones, you should be fine with either

I have always had mixed sex, same sex etc Jude.

Like you, people kept giving me their opinions.

    I have found.....................................

My GR (years ago) who was not done was great around dogs and bitches, he wasn't that horny at all.

Bryn, was disgusting :wreq: he had to be done :2431: wanting to S**g everything all day long, winging, panting, pacing, and I didn't even have a bitch in season :2431: it was just being around them, :2222:

I really don't think it comes down to which sex they are Jude, I think it comes down to each individual dog, it's personality and their hormones as well.

Have what you fancy as like Kenny said Marley is done anyway.

I honestly think these days that it doesnt matter quite as much as people make out. I think its just that "typically" it may be easier to have opposite sexes but its easily managed otherwise.

Also, opposite sexes can fight just as much as same sex. I think its all down to management

i suppose its more managable if you have the space to seperate two dogs that dont get on.... if you live in a small house it would make it more difficult

PostSubject: Re: advice needed   Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:45 pm

the problems arise more wen you have two bitches whom dont like each other as with males you can castrate one and that usually helps with bitches it doesnt work like that and they have been known to fight to the death in some cases
IE where they are same size weight close in age as they can see each other as competetors

this is no fixed rule mind but i knew about someone who had a old GSD a young GSD and a young BC of similar age all bitches the two young dogs did not get on and wen the owner came home a few times the dogs had had fights ect until one day she came in and the young shep had killed the BC

i find bitches are GREAT dogs can be more complex IMO my first bitch was Kiera and shes not very bitchy at all thats why i love her but i find she isnt ruled by her hormones like my boys altho my lads are entire

i will be getting a bitch next not a male i will prob end up with a house of bitches and maybe only one male in the future depending on my dogs

as i buy extreme working dogs they are not gonna roll over and take shit so i dont want two males like that nor two females like that thats why we have a mixture in ages, sex and temperment in my home we have matched them all very well i feel

sorry to ramble hope i have made sence lol but it is down to the individual dog altho i would prob say find a nice bitch or a nice calm submissive male whos not very pushy

i never thought Tilly and Shady would get on but Shady knows her place and can sense when Tilly is playing and when she's not so she backs off.
Bailey and Shady get on like a house on fire and there is 3 years between them all
