well as you know I have had my hands full for a while well gilly the ten month old gsd has gone to a super new home in earls barton just down the way from me so i get to see her whenever we want, milo has a progress report to make to you all this is how we started over a month ago
He would attack if I went into the kennel whether to get him out or to get his bowl or to fill up his water bowl
had to take his bedding away each day so he had nothing to guard so we could work with him
once on a lead he was a darling heels sits gives paw nice boy cant go off lead will attack anything that moves feathered small and furry would dread to think what he is like with a cat would say a big no no,
cannot give him a proper bed just a vet bed on the floor if he has a proper bed (basket) he goes berserk (Attacks) and wets himself
cannot give him toys and leave them with him to play with in the kennel he will attack when you try to take them or try to maneuver him out of the kennel,
he is fine with my children, a bit wary of the older children out on walks but that is understandable,
he has a very strong possessive streak in him,
if he has it no one is allowed it whatsoever
he is fine with other dogs male and female
now since we did this assesment of him we have been working real hard with him and now we have achieved the following
Now have been doing the following with him
if he is in the kennel and wont come out when I call him and have opened the door I close it walk away and try a few minutes later
First thing in the morning is from the kennel next to him is get his blanket out from under the panel so he doesn’t have anything to guard
Some days we have no fights what so ever some days it is hell on four legs
Sometimes he is happy and willing to come out and go for walks or go into the garden he is rewarded when he does the good things ignored when he tries to attack me has got me once I was too slow! Have got it that he will eat off my hand and he is gentle doesn’t snatch
He has got used to me standing next to his bowl while he is eating without going for me like the first few days sometimes he will go for kia and tozie through the bars of the kennel if they come near me and him that’s ok understandable
Sometimes when I go to get him from the kennel he growls wags his tail and pees for Africa in his bed
I have on a few occasions left the door to the kennel and door to the house open and left him to come out when he is ready when he comes out and comes to me if I bend down to love him he wee’s all over the place again,
He needs a very very very understanding home this little boy, he goes out for an hours walk at pitsford reservoir with me in the morning then is in the garden rotated with the girls and my boy and then goes to the tennis courts by the school with me for an hour to have an off lead run in the fenced off courts in the afternoon he is allowed in during the day and at night but has to go into the kennels for bed and when I go to the shops and get the kiddies from school,
as it stands for the last two weeks we have had loads of hugs and kisses from him we have had a bath he didn’t object enjoyed it I think but he attacked the brush and thoroughly killed it so we are trying to get him to like being groomed, and he has begun to get eager to come in and out of the kennel into the house and has begun to come for cuddles on the couch, he has become a very affectionate and loving little monster. So now we are going to start trying to find him a special home to go to.
