How long and how often do you walk your dog?

Do they need to go to release their energy or do you just go with them because you know they enjoy it?

Marley goes out 4 times a day but two of those first thing in the morning and last thing at night are just to do his business. He goes to the beach every morning for at least 1.5 to 2 hours its Marleys favourite time of the day he's happy being on the beach with his ball, He is a totally differnt dog off lead on the beach to what he is on lead on a walk. Its so strange. On the beach all he is interested in is us and his ball and having fun, should a dog come after his ball he will gently chase it away pick his ball up and take it away, should a dog persue after him and his ball he will run into the sea out of the way, if people stop us and ask about Marley , he will go up and gently say hello and then get his ball and play by himself.
He then goes out for a walk around 4 and 5 pm during the summer months its longer than winter months but on lead he's a little bugger!!!! He will walk beautifully until he sees another dog, certain people, certain people on bikes, etc so its not as enjoyable a walk as his beach walk as I have to be on my guard all the time and how bad he is depends on how long I have him out!!! 2 weeks ago when I had him on his halti he took the huff and lay down and refused to budge much to the amusement of everyone who walked by. Its like jeckyll and hide but Im hoping its just a phase he is going through!!

 Bryn is somewhat similar, a few differences though.

Off lead up the woods, he is exactly the same as Marley, he is very focused on me and his ball, but has one eye on his sisters, though Bryn is VERY aloof with people (that he knows or does not know) out of the house, they can try anyway they like to interact with him and he will totally ignore them (In the house he always says hello and is friendly)

Road walking he only pulls a little, nothing that the gencon soesn't keep on top of, he will quite often give a yap more than a bark at people or dogs (again that he knows or doesn't) but he doesn't usually make a huge fuss.

Mine go out sometime in the day for a stroll and a run round the park with Joe and at night they always get a walk for about 45 mins to an hour plus a run on the park with Stanley afterwards.

I think only Mimi needs the exercise, Maggie would be happy with a 10 minute walk but they do enjoy it too. Stanley will be joining them when hes big enough to walk that far

They do play in the garden too, tug of war/football/"fun" training which also tires them out.

All depends on the time of year and who is working where!

Atm they are going out once at each end of the day to answer natures call & then they get at least 3 - 4 miles every day with the OH cos he's not working. Its mainly roadwork atm cos of the mud. They are also in & out of the garden all day.

Sabre is pretty flexible and doesn't require loads of exercise now he's older, and don't do too much because of his hips. So most days he gets 45 mins off leash walking in the morning and evening over the local woods. Then once a week group walk or hour or two at the Chase, and once a week hydro session. If I see him struggling a bit I up his meds and cut back on the walks for a few days.
